Bayern and Tottenham in advanced talks over João Palhinha transfer
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are closing in on Fulham’s Portuguese midfielder, with Premier League side Tottenham also pushing for a deal.
According to multiple reports, João Palhinha could finally complete his long-awaited switch to Bayern Munich this summer, after last-minute drama in 2023 saw the move collapse on deadline day. The defensive midfielder has already agreed personal terms with the German club.
Fulham are open to selling the 29-year-old but demand a fee around €50 million. Bayern, however, face late competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who are in search of a defensive anchor after setbacks in their midfield plans. Thomas Tuchel views Palhinha as a key piece in his rebuild, especially with Joshua Kimmich potentially playing further forward this season.
The deal remains fluid, but Bayern are reportedly confident, having maintained long-standing contact with Palhinha’s camp. The player himself is said to prefer a move to Germany, where he nearly joined last year. Both clubs are expected to accelerate negotiations before the Bundesliga season kicks off on August 17.
“We have a clear profile in mind. João has qualities that we need in our midfield setup.”
If completed, Palhinha would become Bayern’s second major midfield acquisition of the summer following the arrival of winger Luis Díaz. His signing could also trigger outgoings, with Ryan Gravenberch and Leon Goretzka linked to exits.
